Peds nurse, internal medicine specialist, dentist join UMMC faculty
Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Melissa M. Klamm, M.S.N.
Melissa M. Klamm, an R.N. in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in nursing.
After receiving her B.S. in kinesiology/athletic training from the University of Arkansas in 2003, Klamm served as an athletic trainer at Belhaven University as part of UMMC’s Sports Management Program from 2003-04. She earned her B.S.N. at UMMC in 2012 and served in UMMC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit from 2012-15. She received her M.S.N. in nursing education from the Medical Center in 2017.
Klamm has served as an R.N. in the PICU since 2015. A 2017 DAISY Award nominee and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Klamm serves on a pair of PICU committees: the Mentor/Preceptor Committee and the Bereavement Committee.
Varun Mittal, M.B.B.S.
Dr. Varun Mittal, a former chief resident in internal medicine in New York, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.
Upon earning his M.B.B.S. in 2006 and completing a clinical internship in 2007 at the University of Rajasthan: Jawaharial Nehru Medical College, Ajmer, India, Mittal completed his internal medicine categorical residency in 2013 and an internal medicine chief residency in 2014 at New York Medical College at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla.
An associate member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the American Medical Association, Mittal served as an instructor in medicine at New York Medical College from 2013-14. The author or coauthor of 10 peer-reviewed journal articles in professional publications and 12 abstracts and posters presented at scientific meetings nationally, Mittal has served as an invited editor for a number of journals, including the Global Journal of Cancer Therapy, the Annals of Hematology and Oncology and the Annals of Carcinogenesis.
Charles Ramsey, D.M.D.
Dr. Charles Ramsey, a longtime general dentist and part-time clinical assistant instructor in the School of Dentistry and the School of Health Related Professions at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of dentistry.
After receiving his B.S. in biology from Mississippi College in 1982, Ramsey earned his D.M.D. at UMMC in 1988. He has been affiliated with the Medical Center for more than 25 years as a private practitioner and part-time clinical assistant professor. In SHRP, he served as a clinical assistant instructor in dental hygiene, a program that has since moved to the School of Dentistry.
A member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and past president of the Mississippi Dental Association, Fourth District, Ramsey has served as a guest lecturer for eight different courses in dentistry and dental hygiene.
